K.D.’s Treehouse holiday sales and festivities

Posted by jessica on 25 Nov 2009 | Tagged as: activities, clothes, events, shopping

I can’t even believe there are only 30 days until Christmas.  Yes, that is right!  30 days!!!  Unbelievable, especially since I am not even close to having my act together in the gift department!   You better believe I will be swinging by the Treehouse in the next few weeks.  There are lots of great sales and events happening there, so be sure you go, too!

Yea for sales! Friday and Saturday (November 27 & 28):

  • All regular price tops and bottoms buy one and get one half off.  (Equal or lesser value.  In stock merchandise only. Excludes all artists consignment merchandise.)
  • Pajamas are buy one or two get 15% off…  Buy 3 or more and get 20% off.
  • All other regular price merchandise 15% off including jackets, sweaters, dresses, diapers, bedding, bath, laptop lunch boxes and accessories, and toys! (Excludes all artists consignment merchandise.

Yea for parties! Mark your calendar for December 4 when Columbia’s Devine Street merchants open their doors for A Devine Evening from 5pm - 9pm.  During the Devine Street event, K.D.’s Treehouse will co-host:

  • A Little Holiday Party from 4pm - 8pm.  This festive gathering of family-friendly fun will take place at K.D.’s treehouse, Jot and In the Loop (2900-B & 2900-C Devine Street) inside the eco-chic kids boutique, stationery store and local yarn shop and across the outdoor patios and parking lot located directly behind the stores.  The evening’s merriment will include LIVE music by Zach Siebert and Friends; outdoor holiday portrait photography for children with Natural Wonders Photography; festive treats including Christmas cookies and apple cider; late-night holiday shopping and driving support for The Children’s Trust of South Carolina. This event is FREE and everyone is welcome.

Yeah for generosity!  Between now and December 23, the lovely shop will be making a donation to The Children’s Trust of South Carolina for every toy purchased. Donations of 50 cents will be made for each toy up to $20.00 and $1 donations for toys over $20.

See you there!

Cold day, warm drink.

Always looking for ways to save the Earth…Why not try an eco-friendly coffee cup sleeve thingy? (I know it has a name, but I happen to hate the word cozy as a thing you put around a cup or bottle, etc.  Love the word cozy as it relates to being cozy under a blanket. Can’t explain it any further.  It is what it is. Anyway… these reusable coffee cup sleeves work the same as the cardboard ones the coffee shops supply, but they are way more fashionable!  Now your coffee cup can look as cool as you do!

I just happen to have a friend here in Columbia that makes them.  Check out her Coffee Sweaters on Wren Boutique….they make great stocking stuffers!

Holiday sewing classes for kids

Christine Discoe is offering two new kid-friendly sewing classes.

  • Beginning Mom and Child sewing class.  Saturday, December 5th from noon until 2:00pm (or so).  Class will cover the basics of how to thread, wind a bobbin, use basic stitches, and clean the machine. Also, as time allows, you will work on a simple project that can be completed at home. This is a very beginning class for those who own machines in good working order (machines must be brought to class). Ages 7 and up. Class size limited. ($30 each parent/child).
  • Christmas Merry Mittens ornament studio!  Saturday, December 12th from noon until 1:30pm. This class will be a fun continuation of hand-sewing techniques!  This class is open to younger students (ages 5+), but if kids need extra adult supervision, a parent should be available during the class time.  $15.

If you want to sign up, please contact Christine at 708-2591.

Artisans’ Markets

Posted by jessica on 12 Nov 2009 | Tagged as: clothes, crafts, decor, events, shopping

It’s November 12.  Exactly 29 days until the start of Hanukkah.  Exactly 43 days until Christmas.  Exactly 44 days until Kwanzaa.  All of these celebrations can include some gift giving, however large or small.  In preparation for these, and other gift-giving occasions (there are, surprisingly, people with birthdays and anniversaries in December!), you might want to mark your calendar for two great artisans’ markets.

  • Tonight, November 12, there is a Holiday Sip and Shop at 4020 Clairmont Drive.  6-9pm.  Vendors include: Shawna Riddle (The Painted Picket: Hand painted Decorative Accessories); Emily Woodard (Personalized Hand-painted Ornaments);  Ellen Parker (Handmade Recess); Mary Beth Hultstrand (Dragonfly Dreams Personalized Stationery & Invitations); Laura Ingram (Lia Sophia Jewelry); Leigh Ladd (Ethiopaper Handcrafted Cards); Cami Hutchinson (Original Oil Paintings); and Christal Smith (Molly-Pops!).  I know first-hand that the Dragonfly Dreams stationery is awesome.  Sounds like a great opportunity to see some unique gift items, so check it out if you can and support these local artists and businesses!
  • On Sunday, November 15, there is another Artisans’ Fair & Sale at the Columbia Museum of Art.  I would love to see this Artisans’ Market continue to grow.  I recall last year being the first year, and from the information on the web, it looks like it has expanded this year.  I love love love artists’ markets, and it makes me very happy when I see the indie arts and crafts movement emerging in our fair city!  The more we support these local events, the more of them we will see.

Happy shopping season!

Touch a truck!

Don’t miss Big Wheels Day happening at Edventure on Saturday!  If your kids are interested in automobiles, this will be a great event for them!  My son will probably freak out when we pull in the parking lot and he sees all the emergency and work vehicles there.  Can’t wait!
